TheIndonesia.id - Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto said that almost all modes of transportation at the G20 Summit (KTT) used electric vehicles. Several automotive companies will provide electric vehicles, one of which is Toyota Astra Motor.
Hartarto said Toyota Astra Motor (TAM) will provide in the form of Lexus type UX 300e as many as 134 units, complementing the electric transportation modes that have been provided for the G20 Summit, Hyundai Genesis G80 as many as 46 units and Wuling EV as many as 300 units.
In addition, he said there would be additional electric buses to support transportation modes at the Summit, which will peak on November 15 to 16, 2022 in Bali.
At the G20 summit, Hartarto said Indonesia must be an example for other countries in the energy transition efforts, both in the energy and transportation sectors. According to him, the use of this electric transportation mode is a form of the government's efforts to reduce carbon emissions by 29 percent by 2030 and net zero emissions by 2060.
"The energy transition consists of its power plan. Then from mobility, the closest is in the automotive industry," said Hartarto, Wednesday, August 10, 2022.
With that, Hartarto asked the State Electricity Company (PLN) to set up charging stations to meet the need of electric vehicles. He also hopes that the automotive industry's support will not stop at the G20 Summit, but will continue to mass produce electric cars in Indonesia in the coming years.
"Of course, we hope that the activities carried out today are the beginning of the acceleration of the electric vehicle in Indonesia, targeted at a minimum of 20 percent by 2030," said Hartarto.
The G20 Summit Indonesia will receive 39 heads of state or heads of government of G20 member countries and invited countries as well as leaders from international organizations.
143 Lexus UX-300e
PT Toyota Astra Motor (TAM) deployed 143 luxury cars with battery electric vehicle (BEV) technology, the Lexus UX-300e, as part of the official vehicle for members of the delegation from the G20 Summit (KTT).
"We thank the government for appointing us as one of the official car partners in the G20 Presidency. It is an honor for us to be able to actively participate in the success of this international agenda," said Deputy President Director of TAM Henry Tanoto while attending the symbolic announcement by Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto in Jakarta, Wednesday.
Tanoto explained that the selection of the Lexus UX-300e is part of a global strategy and a form of Toyota Group's commitment to providing the best mobility experience for delegates at the G20 Summit in November. Toyota, he continued, implemented a multiple pathways strategy to increase the speed of achieving carbon neutrality by presenting a choice of electrification technologies ranging from Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEV), Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEV), to BEVs.
"Since 2009 the company has presented electrified vehicles in the Indonesian market through the Toyota Prius. Now, no less than 11 line-ups of electrified vehicles are present in Indonesia," Tanoto said in a written statement.
Until the end of July 2022, total sales of TAM electrified vehicles in Indonesia reached more than 6,600 units and globally to date Toyota and Lexus have sold more than 20 million electrified vehicles worldwide with a contribution to CO2 emission reductions of more than 160 million metric tons.
"As a mobility company, we are committed to fully supporting the government in achieving the target of 'zero emission' by 2060," said Tanoto.
Another step is to socialize the use of electrified vehicles through a pilot project of the electrified vehicle ecosystem or EV Smart Mobility in Bali and Lake Toba (North Sumatra) by providing access and promoting electrification technology to the public, including local and foreign tourists.
"Through this pilot project, it is hoped that it will have a positive impact on the government's efforts to develop Eco-Tourism. EV Smart Mobility will also create a new attraction for tourists who want to get an eco-tourism experience so that they can participate in supporting the government in restoring and promoting five super priority tourist destinations in Indonesia," he said.
In addition, the company continues to improve the line-up emission standards based on the Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) technology to the Euro4 standard, both for gasoline and diesel models, so that no automotive customer is left behind in their contribution to reducing carbon emissions.
"And to further provide opportunities to enter electrification options, starting this year we will enter into electrification models that will be produced domestically so that it is hoped that this electrification mobility will be more in line with the needs of the community," said Henry Tanoto.
