TheIndonesia.id - MotoGP Mandalika organizers and the Indonesian government are teaming up to set up a campground with 1,000 tents to house tens of thousands fans who are expected to come to Mandalika to watch the motorbike race.
Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno said as outdoor recreation continues to be the preferred option among tourists globally, campground facility appears to be a favorable solution as the Mandalika welcomes MotoGP spectators.
“Among the innovations made [during MotoGP preparation] is camping ground for tourists who are [also] looking for adventures and adrenaline rush – they can stay in the outdoor facilities,” Uno said on Sunday, February 20, as reported by Antara.
He added that the campground is also an alternative made by the government as homestays and conventional hotels are limited in number.
Organizers are preparing 1,000 tents for 2,000 fans where they can pay Rp240,000 (US$17) for rent or Rp600,000 if they also want to enjoy pickup service, including from the Lombok International Airport.
The ground is located in a two-hectare area in Mandalika, and the facilities provided there include restrooms, mosque, small stage, and stalls for local small-and-medium enterprises (SMEs).
Uno said antigen and PCR tests will be available at the ground’s entrance.
The Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy also continues to ensure the readiness of around 50 homestay units which will be organized alongside locals in the tourism area.
Mandalika is set to host the MotoGP race on March 18-20, after pre-season test was completed at Mandalika International Street Circuit earlier this month.
