TheIndonesia.id - Overthinking is tiring, but it's not easy to get rid of the habit of overthinking. So how to stop overthinking? When you think too much, thoughts swirl around your head and you get stuck unable to move forward. More than that, you start coming up with strange ideas that are completely at odds with each other.

Overthinking is the act of thinking about something too much or too long. In fact, research has shown that overthinking increases stress, reduces creativity, and takes away your power to make decisions.

Fortunately, there are several ways to deal with overthinking. Here are the steps, quoted from the Omari Tani website.

1. Change the story you tell yourself

What you repeatedly tell yourself—and how you repeatedly describe yourself—is what you believe and become. Everything we do and experience stems from our identity and the underlying set of beliefs.

The question is, do the stories you tell yourself are making you empowered you or hold you back?

There are some thoughts that can be more dangerous, for example:

Immediately replace the negative narrative with positive, empowering thoughts, for example:

2. Let go of the past

When you accept the past as it is, you free yourself from the burden of past thoughts, mistakes, or grudges that stop you from taking action in the present.

Learning to let go of the past is something that must be done constantly. That's because it's so easy to slip back into the habit of brooding and overthinking.

3. Stop your negative thoughts right now

Bring your attention to where you are now. Take a breath and focus. Where are you? What do you feel? What are you thinking? What's stressing you out?

Open your journal and write down your thoughts. Research shows that the habit of writing down how we feel can help overcome metacognitive thinking.

Daily rituals such as keeping a journal, meditating, or writing one line a day help you maintain control over your thoughts so you can stay in the present and practice living in the moment. These activities also reduce stress and increase focus and self-awareness.

4. Focus on what you can control

First, acknowledge what's on your mind. Second, take a step back and broaden your perspective. Ask yourself, "What can I control?"

If you have financial problems and are confused about how to pay your bills, thinking about it too much won't help. Instead, think, "What can I cut or eliminate from my bill?"

After that, ask yourself, "What other streams of income can I create?" This is how you shift your attention from what you can't control, to what you can.

5. Identify your fear

What often makes us think excessively is an irrational fear. You are afraid of what other people might think, afraid of making mistakes, and fear is not good enough to succeed.

One of the best strategies to defeat fear is taking action. Take small steps to face your fears and see what happens. The more often try, the possibility of winning against fear is also greater.

6. Write down the solution openly, not just the problem

To stop excessive thinking, you have to overcome the existing problems. When you feel overwhelmed, take time to write down all the thoughts in your head, then divert your attention to the solution.

Learn to manage and manage your emotions and thoughts. Express what you think so you can increase your awareness about it. After that, write a solution that you can make to relieve it.

7. Make a decision to be a person who dares to act

There are two important things here, namely making decisions and taking action. Overthinking makes you lose in your own mind, then bring you to acute doubts.

Well, when you are stuck in the same place, forward movements can help you. What you need to do is practice making decisions and hold fast to that decisions.

Those are some ways to overcome overthinking. Hope it is useful!
