Joint military exercise between the Indonesian and Malaysian armies in Bandung, West Java.

TheIndonesia.id - The Indonesian and Malaysian armies teamed up for a joint military exercise that involved 120 personnel.

The joint exercise, which was held in Suparlan Airfield in West Bandung, West Java, aimed to improve soldiers’ combat skills. 90 Personnel from the Indonesian Army (TNI AD) and 30 personnel from the Malaysian Army took part in the exercise.

After the closing ceremony, Inspector of the 2nd Kostrad Infantry Division Brig. Gen. Bahram said the joint exercise between the two countries sought to train personnel’s tactical and technical skills in combat.

“We conducted technical and tactical trainings on how to carry out cross-state operations. Knowledge owned by Indonesia and Malaysia is combined and formulated by AD’s operation staffs, and it resulted in this exercise,” he explained on Thursday, December 2, 2021.

The event is also expected to further strengthen the bilateral relations to also contribute to regional security.

“We will hold similar exercise every year, and we will evaluate the results, so it can be improved over time,” he added.

Commander of the 18th Airborne Brigade Raider Col. Inf. Bagus Putu said personnel started the joint exercise with aerial training for two weeks.

“It started with ground training and continued with [lessons on] boarding the plane, dropping, air sweeper, landing, and on air support when the target is captured,” he explained.

He expressed similar hope that the joint training can strengthen Indonesia-Malaysia relations in order to maintain peace in respective country and in the Southeast Asian region.
