TheIndonesia.id - The West Java Regional Police and Karawang Police Department arrested seven suspects in relation to last month’s bank robbery case in Karawang. Suspects were arrested from different locations.
The seven suspects whose initials are CN, CA, MS, WCP, DY, AS, and DH reported having different roles and responsibilities when carrying out their crime including immobilizing and pointing a gun at victims.
Head of public relations at the West Java Regional Police Pol. Grand Commissioner Erdi Ardimulan Chaniago confirmed that the arrest is related to an armed robbery case that happened on Friday, November 26.
“Suspects entered the building, pointing the gun. They immobilized victims by tying up their hands and feet,” Chaniago said in his office on Monday, December 2021. He added suspects then took Rp400 million (US$28,571) from a safe.
Police arrested them two days later from different locations.
Chaniago also revealed that five out of the seven suspects are repeat offenders. They had committed crime in West Java areas, including Cirebon, Bogor, and Cikarang, as well as in West Jakarta. One suspect even previously committed international crime in Malaysia, Vietnam, Thailand, Myanmar, and China.
Investigation revealed the group was actually planning to rob the house of a public figure whose name wasn’t disclosed by the police, after the bank robbery in Karawang. Chaniago said suspects were planning their unexecuted action through watching the target’s daily video blogs or vlogs.
Among some of the pieces of evidence collected by the police were four firearms, 17 ammunitions, eight cellphones, two four-wheeled vehicles, and Rp40 million in cash.
The police are still trying to detain four other suspects who are part of the group.
