TheIndonesia.id - Greater Jakarta Metropolitan Regional Police has announced that restaurants and other public entertainment in Jakarta are only allowed to open until 8 p.m. on New Year’s Eve.

It said the policy is taken to prevent any crowds during public events as Indonesia continues the effort to contain the spread of COVID-19.

“We will carry out monitoring because on New Year’s Eve, all entertainment venue can only open until 8 p.m.,” chief of public relations at the Jakarta Police Pol. Grand Commissioner Endra Zulpan confirmed on Tuesday, December 28.

He added that the police unit will deploy 8,000 personnel, along with teams from the Indonesian Military and Jakarta Provincial Government, to ensure optimal monitoring.

Besides confirming that all health protocols are in place in public places, the joint forces also aim to ensure those places close at regulated time. If police find any violation, the business permit will be revoked by the government.

In the festive day, the police will also monitor residential areas to disperse crowds and any use of firecrackers and fireworks.
