TheIndonesia.id - Indonesia continues preparation to test and introduces a fleet of electric buses during G20 Summit in Bali later this year.
Ministry of Transportation said it’s part of the nationwide campaign to mainstream the use and adoption of electric vehicles (EV) in Indonesia.
“The Ministry has initiated that that in the near future we’ll have electric bus for Indonesians,” director of river, lake and ferry transportation at the Ministry, Junaidi, said on Monday, January 18, as reported by Antara.
He said the use of EV in public transportation system is expected to efficiently deliver the message to public about the upsides of environmentally friendly transportation. And the G20 Summit in Bali is the chosen event to try out the plan.
“This is part of the campaign to use the environmentally friendly EV as it will reduce carbon emission. [The buses] will be first deployed during the G20 event,” Junaidi explained.
Previously Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi revealed that state-owned manufacturing company PT INKA would produce electric buses for G20 Summit in Bali. Among some its products, the company also makes train cars that have been exported to a number of country. In December, 262 “container flat top wagons” produced by PT INKA were exported to New Zealand.
Junaidi said the Ministry will continue to collaborate with related stakeholders to continue the development and production of EV in Indonesia.
“So far, there has been production for electric bicycles and two-wheeled vehicles. Hopefully, there’ll be domestic production for electric cars.”
The establishment of EV charging stations (SPKLU) across the country also continues to support the campaign and provide the much-needed facilities for Indonesians who opt to switch to EV.
