Denmark Wants to Build Green Port in Batam

TheIndonesia.id - Danish companies are studying investment opportunities in Batam, Riau Islands, especially in energy and environmental sectors, including the development green port.

During a virtual meeting between the embassy of Denmark and Batam Indonesia Free Zone Authority (BIFZA), deputy head of mission Soren Bindesboll said cooperation opportunities in Batam as a Free Trade Zone (FTZ) can hopefully be optimized by Danish companies.

“We hope that agreement between BIFZA and Danish companies can be made, to strengthen bilateral cooperation between the two countries,” Bindesboll said on Friday, January 28, as reported by Antara.

Energy and environmental sectors, in particular, can be the starting points for involving parties to further explore business and partnership opportunities in Indonesia.

The discussion also focuses on the establishment of green port, which is a sustainable port that integrates environmental sustainability, energy conservation, community development, and economic aspects.

According to BIFZA, the region and the institution already possess the necessary supporting facilities for investments and projects in energy and environmental sectors, including green port development.

Deputy head of BIFZA Purwiyanto said electricity infrastructure in Batam has reached a total capacity of 473 megawatt, and it already has various types of power plants, including diesel, gas, and steam for household and commercial purposes.

Seven reservoirs in Batam are in operation to supply clean water for household and industry, and two other reservoirs are currently under construction.

BIFZA has also finished the establishment of four sediment trap trash racks (STTR) that filter waste, so water entering the reservoir is already clean and will flow smoothly.

“BIFZA has prepared facilities for smart and green port. A few days ago, Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan was also present in Batam and ordered to accelerate the realization of smart and green port.”
