TransJakarta Launches New Route to Jakarta International Stadium

TheIndonesia.id - City-owned bus operator TransJakarta has officially launched the trial for new route to Jakarta International Stadium (JIS) on Tuesday, March 1.

Route 14 is being put to the test by TransJakarta as the company and Jakarta government targets the route to fully operate by August or September this year.

“As part of our support, TransJakarta operates Route 14 JIS-Senen. It’s also part of our commitment to expand our service and provide safe and comfortable transport for the public,” acting head of corporate secretary and public relations division at TransJakarta Angelina Betris said on Tuesday, as reported by Antara.

During the trial, TransJakarta buses on Route 14 will operate from 5.00 a.m. to 9.30 p.m. with 10 minute headway during peak hours and 20 minute headway outside of peak times.

Busway passengers can enjoy the service by only paying Rp3,500, or US$0.25, which is TransJakarta ticket’s flat rate.

Being one of Jakarta’s newest sources of pride, stakeholders and public have been eagerly waiting for the completion of JIS. Located in Tanjung Priok, North Jakarta, it’s planned to have a capacity of 82,000 and will become the third biggest stadium in the world and the biggest in Southeast Asia. JIS will also have retractable roof that will make it possible to host various events like concerts.

In January, JIS developer, PT Jakarta Propertindo, or Jakpro, invited the public to come and visit the facility as construction work reached almost 94 percent completion.

Previously in December, Jakpro president director Widi Amanasto confirmed that the stadium will be completed before Formula E race in Jakarta starts in June.

Government and developers are aiming to make JIS one of the iconic sites to impress the Formula E audience.

Jakarta provincial government prepared to soft launch the stadium in February, but the plan was eventually canceled amid the growing concern of COVID-19 variant Omicron.
