TheIndonesia.id - President Joko Widodo kicked off the biggest craft exhibition in Southeast Asia on Wednesday in Jakarta that showcases products and crafts from more than 700 local businesses and small-and-medium enterprises (SMEs).
The Jakarta International Handicraft Trade Fair (INACRAFT) 2022 officially opened on March 23, in an effort by the Indonesian government to give platform for local small businesses from Indonesia to promote their products and their brands.
“I invite the public to support local products, particularly crafts, to support the crafters and SMEs,” Widodod said in his speech, as reported by Anatra.
INACRAFT 2022 opens on March 23-27 at Balai Sidang Senayan in Central Jakarta, and it’s the first edition to be held after a two-year hiatus due to COVID-19 pandemic.
The theme for this year is “Smiling Heritage of West Java; From Smart Village to Global Market”, and 722 businesses participate in the event that consists of 510 individuals, 169 state office-backed businesses, and 43 state-owned enterprises-backed businesses. Public can visit the exhibition for free.
INACRAFT 2022 is also held online with 150 merchant stores taking part.
As the biggest craft exhibition in Southeast Asia region, the event is an opportunity for local crafters to showcase and promote their products, as well as for craft lovers alike to add to their collection.
Not only domestic customers, it has also been attracting international buyers. The event is expected to trigger an increase in handicraft export.
Products like ceramics, wickers, glasses, shoes, bags, and jewelries are displayed at the event.
INACRAFT was initiated by the Association of Exporters and Producers of Indonesian Handicraft (ASEPHI) and was first held in April 1999.
