TheIndonesia.id - Indonesia will host the 2022 World Rock Climbing Championship which will be held in Jakarta from September 24-26, Minister of Youth and Sports Zainudin Amali reported on Wednesday.
The Central Board of the Indonesian Rock Climbing Federation (PP FPTI) previously considered Bali and Manado as the location for the 2022 World Championship series. However, in a working meeting with Commission 10 the House of Representatives, it was decided to be held in Kemayoran, Jakarta.
"The Chairperson of FPTI, Mrs. Yenny Wahid, said that the venue for the World Championships has begun to be prepared in Kemayoran," said Zainudin in his presentation which was followed virtually in Jakarta, Wednesday, March 23, 2022.
"The target for Indonesia is because we have a world champion, so we hope to be able to defend that (title)," he continued.
The 2022 World Rock Climbing Championship consists of 13 series. Indonesia is included in the IFSC calendar for 2022 and has the opportunity to host the 12th series by competing for lead and speed numbers.
The championship titled "IFSC Climbing World Cup Indonesia 2022" is expected to be participated by more than 100 elite athletes from 35 countries, including Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Japan, South Korea, Russia, Germany, Italy, England, Australia, the United States, and Canada.
For the record, Indonesia was originally scheduled to host the Rock Climbing World Cup in October 2021. However, the closing series, which was originally scheduled to be held in Jakarta, had to be canceled due to a 10-day quarantine policy.
