TheIndonesia.id - President Jokowi officially opened three new tourist destinations in Kupang, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), that are expected to build tourism industry in the area.

The three tourism and culinary centers were built by the Ministry of Public Works and Housing (PUPR) as part of a grand plan to renovate the city of Kupang. They are located in Kota Lama area, Kelapa Lima beach, and along Jalan Frans Seda.

“I’m impressed with the development – from Kota Lama, Kelapa Lima beach, and corridor 3 of Frans Seda street,” Widodo said on Thursday, March 24, as reported by Antara.

He added that by renovating NTT’s capital and building attractive tourist destinations, more visitors will come to the eastern part of Indonesia which will support the livelihood of the locals.

Director general for human settlement at the PUPR Diana Kusumastuti said total area of the three locations are 5.19 hectares. The development and construction started in October 2020 and was completed in February this year.

For Kota Lama area, the development focuses on providing space for up to 44 booths for small vendors and sellers.

Meanwhile, the newly-improved space in Kelapa Lima beach is the location for up to 96 kiosks for small vendors. Prior to the construction and re-management, the place was a fish market.

Lastly, providing open space for the public is the main focus of the Ministry for project in corridor 3 of Jalan Frans Seda.
