TheIndonesia.id - The government of Bandung regency is planning to build retention ponds in a designated 170-hectare area to reduce the effects of flooding that often happens in the southern part of Bandung.
Bandung regent Dadang Supriatna said the retention ponds will be located in five villages in Tegalluar area, which are Tegalluar, Rancaekek Wetan, Rancaekek Kulon, Tegal Sumedang, and Sukamanah villages.
“Hopefully, the six ponds in Tegalluar can be realized soon. Five of them will be located outside of transit oriented development, and another will be located within TOD,” Supriatna said on Monday, April 18, as reported by Antara.
The width of these ponds will be various, including 13, 20, and 30 hectares.
The regent said when construction is completed, the retention ponds will temporarily retain water to prevent flood and to reserve the water to later be processed by water company, or PDAM.
The government even plans to make these ponds tourist destinations.
Meanwhile, West Java governor Ridwan Kamil added that the condition along Citarum river basin has significantly improved and flooding hasn’t been as frequent in the last two years.
And the planned retention ponds are expected to further assist with flooding issues faced by the province at large, and its creation can also kick off better urban planning and management in Tegalluar.
“We will report this plan to build the retention ponds in Bandung regency to President [Joko Widodo,” Kamil said.
