TheIndonesia.id - The Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs Mahfud MD has asked the millions of Indonesians who go on mudik this year to prioritize safety in the hours-long trip back to their hometown.
The Chief Security Minister sent a message to millions of mudik travelers on Saturday, April 30, reminding that safety and health are the most important aspects during their homecoming trips as the top state official also encouraged the public to celebrate the eventful Idul Fitri.
“To all Muslims and Indonesians that will go on mudik [to celebrate] Lebaran, I remind you to celebrate the beauty of the big day. Therefore, always be careful on the road and don’t rush. Take a break if you’re exhausted and do your silaturahmi well,” Mahfud said in a video.
“Wishing you a safe journey. Minal aidin wal faizin,” he concluded.
Previously, he also warned all officers to maintain good communication with mudik travelers to prevent any unnecessary clash or misunderstanding that can hinder mudik from being an enjoyable experience.
“Field officers must communicate with mudik travelers in a friendlier manner because they go on mudik to meet their relatives after not being able to do so for a long time. They have varied experience, level of understanding and education, so officers must be wise in handling them,” Mahfud said on Friday.
On the other hand, he also asked members of the public to be cooperative and understand that officers are following procedures and regulation.
With such mutual understanding, Mahfud said he’s optimistic that orders can be upheld and this year’s mudik can be a memorable experience.
