Indonesia Open to Exporting Chicken to Singapore After Malaysia's Ban

TheIndonesia.id - Indonesia is open to the possibility of exporting poultry to neighbor country Singapore after Malaysia banned chicken export, the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs said.

Secretary of the Coordinating Ministry Susiwijono Moegiarso claimed that Indonesia will try to push poultry export to Singapore as it appears to be a promising opportunity after Malaysia started banning poultry export earlier this month.

“This is related to the current global crisis, so it’s very interesting as Singapore will definitely need chicken supply,” Moegiarso said on Friday, June 10, as reported by Antara.

While the world is facing crisis related to food and energy (among many things), Moegiarso said Indonesia’s poultry industry is facing oversupply, and it can become a beneficial opportunity.

However, the plan will continue to be discussed before authorities can reveal more details.

Previously, Malaysia’s Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industries announced that the export of live chicken, round chicken carcass, chicken meat cuts, and chicken-based food products would be banned.

The regulation took effect on June 1.
