TheIndonesia.id - Bali has been selected as the host for the World Beach Games that will be held in August next year where 1,200 athletes from 100 countries will participate.
News about the international multi-sport event was confirmed by the executive of Indonesian Olympic Committee (KOI) Rafiq Hakim Radinal.
“Dewata Island [the nickname for Bali] has been selected as the host for the World Beach Games 2023 where 1,200 athletes from 100 countries will compete in 10 world-class sports, and the event will be held on August 5-12, 2023,” Radinal said on Tuesday, July 12, as reported by Antara.
Bali governor I Wayan Koster said he was pleased that Bali was chosen for the event and promised to prepare every supporting facility and infrastructure.
The province’s leader also express his hope that the World Beach Games can help improve the national sports industry as well as providing another momentum for Bali to revive its tourism and economy.
“With Bali chosen [to host the event], it can also support Bali’s provincial government’s program to develop its sports tourism,” Koster said.
Besides the World Beach Games 2023, Bali has hosted a number of international events this year, including the Minamata Convention, the 144th Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), and the 7th Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction (GPDRR).
And most notably, the province will also host the G20 summit in November.
