TheIndonesia.id - An expert in international law from the University of Indonesia has said that President Joko Widodo’s talks with Ukrainian and Russian leaders last month starts showing positive results to global food and supply chain as delegations from the two countries at war opened discussion on food export.
Hikmahanto Juwana said global food crisis was the right issue to be brought up by the Indonesian President in his meetings, especially with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin, because it has become one of the most pressing issues resulted from the war in Ukraine.
“The President covered the effort to push for ceasefire with [emphasis in] food crisis in developing countries, and it became the basis for meeting between Ukrainian and Russian delegations in Turkey on July 13,” Juwana said on Thursday, July 14, as reported by Antara.
As reported, representatives from Russia, Ukraine, and Turkey held a meeting with the UN officials in Istanbul on Wednesday to discuss the continuation of and regulation for grain export from Ukraine amid worsening global food crisis.
Juwana said while concrete deal regarding the matter has yet to be signed and made official, the meeting hints that parties involved in the war has come to acknowledge the severe impacts of the war to global food supply chain.
And he said the face-to-face meeting between the two countries’ officials is a good momentum to further encourage ceasefire.
