TheIndonesia.id - Jakarta provincial government has promised to inspect and reassess the construction of Jakarta International Stadium (JIS) after the stadium’s barrier collapsed during its launching event on Sunday, July 24.
Jakarta deputy governor Ahmad Riza Patria said the local government will look at the infrastructure of JIS to find the cause behind the collapsed barrier that occurred during launching event on Sunday.
“We will evaluate whether it wasn’t constructed strong enough. We will look into it,” Patria confirmed on Monday, July 25, as reported by Antara.
Among some of the possible causes behind the incident, he said, was bad construction and the spectacles’ “high spirits”.
“Whether the barrier wasn’t built strong enough or because [the fans] were in high spirits,” Patria said again.
Furthermore, the deputy governor also wanted the fans to be managed properly, so they are not concentrated in one spot which will create excessive weigh.
“It was a lesson for us, to protect and take care [of the stadium],” he concluded.
It was previously reported that barrier at the North tribune of the stadium collapsed at 5.40 p.m. local time during the launching event of the brand new stadium which is located in North Jakarta.
No one was injured in the incident, and the event continued with a match between Persija Jakarta and Chonburi FC from Thailand.
Jakarta governor Anies Baswedan also blamed “high spirits” of the football fans who attended the match as the culprit.
“The spirits [ran] high, and this was the first time the stadium is used,” Baswedan said on Sunday, calling the incident a “growing pain”.
