TheIndonesia.id - The Indonesian Game Association, or AGI, has claimed that locally developed games are sought after in international markets and that export significantly supports the growth of local gaming industry.
AGI president Cipto Adiguno said players in local gaming industry earn more from exports, and the industry is expected to thrive further as technology adaptation for entertainment is also growing.
“We believe that gaming industry will continue to grow with the birth of new consoles, blockchain technology, and 5G technology – which allow the development of new games and stimulate both domestic and international markets,” Adiguno said on Monday, August 15, as reported by Antara.
According to the 2022 Indonesian Game Rating System (IGRS), there are 85 game developers from Indonesia in the industry.
It is also worth noting that locally developed games, in fact, are sought after by international markets, said AGI, and the expanded market also triggers the growth of industry in its entirety.
However, Adiguno warned that the positive trend is not without threats, especially since pandemic situation improves, and more people are returning to their routines pre-COVID.
“Unlike other industries which have been contracting since the pandemic, the creative digital industry grows instead. However, since restrictions are gradually lifted, people start looking for entertainment out of their houses and leave games behind,” he said, “We must work to keep the people who start playing games after the pandemic to continue playing, so the business continues to grow.”
Globally, Indonesia’s gaming market us the 16th largest in the world and is in the top 10 for mobile gaming.
