Vaping Association Asks Indonesian Authorities to Adopt VNNP Regulation

TheIndonesia.id - The Indonesian Personal Vaporizer Association (APVI) is recommending the Indonesian authorities to review regulation related to vaporized nicotine and non-nicotine products (VNNP) that is considered an effective tool to reduce smoking prevalence in the country.

According to chair of APVI Aryo Andrianto, VNNP regulation act has been adopted in the Philippines even though its government was previously against the idea. Furthermore, similar regulation had also been implemented in the United Kingdom and New Zealand.

“Many countries were against alternative tobacco products. However, currently, we support them and formulate relevant regulation upon understanding the risk profile,” Andrianto said on Wednesday, September 7, as reported by Antara.

He continued that based on different studies, alternative tobacco products pose lower threat to health compared to cigarettes. Therefore, they can become options for active smokers who are trying to quit.

Taking into account the upsides, Andrianto said the Indonesian authorities should govern alternative tobacco products in a special regulation separated from the one regulating cigarettes.

“[Regulation related to] minimum age, promotional access, and information on package based on risk profile is needed by this industry,” the APVI representative said.
