Key Achievements of Indonesia's Football Team Under Shin Tae-yong

TheIndonesia.id - On Monday, the All-Indonesia Football Association (PSSI) announced the termination of Shin Tae-yong's contract as the head coach of the Indonesian national football team.

According to Antara News Agency, Shin was appointed by PSSI in December 2019, succeeding interim coach Yeyen Tumena, who had stepped in following Simon McMenemy’s departure.

While Indonesia's national team did not secure any major trophies during his tenure, Shin's contributions to the development of the team are undeniable. His time as coach saw several key milestones and notable achievements.

In his first AFF Cup, Shin guided Indonesia to the final of the 2020 AFF Cup (ASEAN Championship). Although Indonesia was defeated by Thailand in the two-legged final, finishing as runners-up with a 0-4 loss and a 2-2 draw, the team showed impressive performances throughout the competition.

In 2022, Shin led the team to the final round of the 2023 U-20 Asian Cup, where they impressed during the qualification stages with victories over Vietnam, Timor-Leste, and Hong Kong.

Shin's leadership also took the Indonesian team to the finals of the 2023 AFF U-23 Championship. Despite their strong efforts, Vietnam narrowly edged out Indonesia in a penalty shootout.

In early 2024, Shin successfully led the team through the group stages of the 2023 Asian Cup, reaching the round of 16. Unfortunately, their journey ended with a tough 4–0 loss to Australia.
