TheIndonesia.id - Defense Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin and Eddy Hartono, Head of the National Counter-Terrorism Agency (BNPT), recently met to discuss strategies for improving Indonesia’s resilience against terrorism, including deradicalization initiatives and enhanced cooperation between agencies.
According to Antara News Agency, the meeting, held on January 8 in Jakarta, focused on the importance of fostering synergy and coordination within the BNPT and with other relevant institutions. Minister Sjamsoeddin emphasized the need for an integrated approach to counter the complex challenges posed by terrorism.
"An effective, collaborative effort involving all stakeholders is essential to overcoming these challenges," Sjamsoeddin stated, refer to a statement from his office.
The Defense Minister reiterated that a strong partnership between the Ministry of Defense and BNPT is critical for Indonesia’s success in combating radical ideologies and terrorism. He also encouraged the BNPT to continue expanding its global network, underscoring the importance of international cooperation in developing counter-terrorism strategies.
On his social media platform, Sjamsoeddin praised the BNPT for its efforts to engage young people through initiatives like the Peace Ambassador program, which promotes the values of Indonesia’s national ideology, Pancasila, in schools.
BNPT Head Eddy Hartono also shared updates on ongoing programs, including a training course for civil servant candidates at the University of Defense in Bogor, West Java. This initiative aims to equip participants with the skills needed to combat modern-day terrorism, while reinforcing the importance of Pancasila.
Through these efforts, both the Ministry of Defense and BNPT aim to strengthen Indonesia’s counter-terrorism framework and ensure a united, comprehensive response to the evolving threat of terrorism.
