Bird of Paradise or Cenderawasih in Indonesian lives in Warkesi, Raja Ampat, West Papua, Indonesia

TheIndonesia.id - The Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK) through the Papua Natural Resources Conservation Center (BBKSDA) has released four birds of two types, the small yellow cenderawasih or bird of paradise and the brilliant toowa.

In a statement from the Ministry of Environment and Forestry received in Jakarta by Antara on Monday, December 20, 2021, the release activity took place in Nyei Toro Forest, Pasir VI, Ravenirara District, Jayapura Regency, Papua on Saturday, December 18, 2021.

"Thank you to all those who have helped in controlling and supervising the circulation of endemic Papuan wild flora and fauna. Synergies like this need to be continued and improved. In the future, of course, we hope that there will be no more illegal acts against endemic Papuan wildlife," said Head of the Papua Natural Resources Conservation Agency, Edward Sembiring.

The four birds, consisting of three small yellow Cenderawasih (Paradisaea minor) and one brilliant toowa (Ptiloris magnificus), came from community donations through the Animal Lovers Jayapura community and Rumah Bakau. The community then handed it over to BBKSDA Papua on October 12, 2021.

The four animals have undergone a habituation period of about two months in the Buper Waena Transit Cage. The four birds underwent avian flu-free PCR examination by the Jayapura Class I Agricultural Quarantine Center. All animals are in good physical condition, and already have a wild nature, so they are ready to return to nature.

Both types of animals are included in the category protected by law with Edward encouraging all stakeholders to take part in protecting endemic wildlife, including those in Papua. "We take care of nature, nature takes care of us," he said.
