TheIndonesia.id - Director general of civil registry office warned the public to always carefully dispose unused official documents as they contain personal information that might be misused.
Zudan Arif Fakrulloh said information like identity number is usually included in official documents issued by state agencies. Therefore, he suggested document owners to immediately discard old and unused documents to prevent possible information theft.
“Official documents [are issued] for citizens. And if they don’t use them anymore, owners should dispose of them so that they’re safe,” the director general at the Ministry of Home Affairs said on Monday, December 27.
If not, all documents should be stored safely to prevent other parties from gaining sensitive information.
“Principally, all documents with identity and family card numbers must be kept carefully by the person,” he added.
Previously, social media users learned that an official letter that once belonged to former Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries Susi Pudjiastuti was used to wrap gorengan, or assorted fries which is a popular snack in Indonesia.
The old document contained a picture of a woman who many people believed was Pudjiastuti. The letter was reportedly related to one of the requirements to become a minister.
The wrapper also has the signature of Pangandaran subdistrict head at the time, Suryanto.
It went viral, and many people shared their thoughts about the finding. One user questioned how official document could end up being a snack, while another one joked that the former minister should ‘sink’ the gorengan seller, referring to her famous policy of sinking confiscated illegal boats.
