TheIndonesia.id - The Minister of National Development Planning/Head of the National Development Planning Agency, Suharso Monoarfa, launched "Made in Bali" fuel that uses refuse-derived fuel (RDF) technology as an effort to implement a circular economy and a Green Bali. The fuel can be used as heating fuel for industry.
PT Packaging Ciptatama Sempurna, one of the packaging manufacturers in the province, has used about 6 tons of RDF per day for the last 4 months.
"I hope that the good practices of implementing a circular economy, especially in waste management, can be replicated in other places so that it leads to Bali Zero Waste and Bali Green," said Minister Suharso Monoarfa in Denpasar City, Friday, April 8, 2022.
Refuse-derived fuel is produced by the Jimbaran Integrated Waste Processing Site (TPST Samtaku) Jimbaran with production reaching 20 tons per day from a waste input capacity of around 120 tons per day. Before reaching TPST, waste is also processed at the Reduce, Reuse, Recycle Waste Management Site (TPS3R).
With refuse-derived fuel technology, said Minister Suharso, Bali can meet the needs of locally produced or "Made in Bali" fuel. "The waste is processed to become briquettes. Imagine if a factory needs primary energy from outside Bali, of course, there is a cost. With briquettes from waste in Bali, it supports a green economy and a circular economy, revolves in Bali, back here again," he said.
Several industries in Bali are currently implementing RDF as a strategy to achieve Zero Waste to Landfills. RDF produces heating fuel or boilers for hotels, the Celukan Bawang Steam Power Plant in Buleleng, as well as factories that require substitution or co-firing of coal and palm shells.
In Bali, Material Recovery Facilities (MRF) are encouraged, where all waste is recovered and utilized so that it is hoped that no waste will remain. Based on Indocement and Sucofindo laboratory tests, the calorific value of RDF waste from the Samtaku TPST is around 4,300 to 6,200 kilocalories per kilogram.
In addition to RDF, the processing of TPST in Bali with the MRF type is also encouraged to become products of recycled materials, pellets, compost, maggot, and animal food. "In the future, waste processing in Denpasar can produce 200 tons of RDF per day and can replace other primary energy in Bali," said Minister Suharso.
