TheIndonesia.co - Ciliwung, a 120 km long River in Jakarta, is one of the most famous rivers in Indonesia. It flows the water down from Pangrango Mountain to Jakarta Bay.
The river had always been the main topic because it brought floods to Jakarta, Indonesia's capital city. The river is also polluted by waste and the river banks are full of slum settlements.
Many try to restore and conserve Ciliwung's condition such as the Clean Ciliwung Movement (GCB) community. Currently, GCB is trying to introduce Eco-tourism and Edu-tourism programs in the Ciliwung River. They hope people can enjoy visiting the river while learning about the history, the conservation, and the animals.
The launch of the Eco-tourism attraction was marked by the inauguration of the Jembatan Pantau Gate by several officials, the Peduli Ciliwung Community, and the representatives of GCB members.

"Finally, after 31 years, our efforts have shown positive results. The water quality of the Ciliwung River has improved to the second level, which means the water is drinkable. The river is also suitable for reproduction of aquatic biotas such as fish, shrimp, and others," said the Chairman of GCB, Peni Susanti, as quoted by Suara.com, Monday (11/15/2021).
Peni said that she wanted to introduce the new face of the Ciliwung River as an alternative tourist destination in Jakarta. She wanted the tourist to learn about the river, the conservation, and the environment.
As an Eco-tourism and Edu-tourism destination, there are several tourist locations you can visit.
At the GCB office, precisely located on Penjernihan Street, Karet Bivak, Jakarta, you can learn about the history of the Ciliwung river. Besides, you can also learn about sorting and processing river waste through the Peuyeumisasi or bio drying method.
Another thing you can do is walk along the river, harvest hydroponic vermiculture products, and enjoy a cup of coffee with the Ciliwung view.
There is also a river school where you can see endemic and rare ancient animals, such as the Senggawangan or a native animal like the softshell turtle (Chitra Chitra Javanensis) weighs 300 Kilograms (Kg). The turtle was found on 11 November 2011.
Lastly, you can not miss Jawarapeci Condet, a place to process inorganic waste into works of art such as souvenirs, bags, and several other products.
