Mandalika Gears Up for GT World Challenge Asia in 2025

TheIndonesia.id - The Mandalika International Circuit in Central Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), is gearing up to host the prestigious GT World Challenge Asia, an international car racing championship, from May 9–11, 2025. The event will feature a total of 66 racers from 33 teams across 21 countries.

According to Antara News Agency, Priandi Satria, President Director of the Mandalika Grand Prix Association (MGPA), confirmed the exciting news on Sunday, noting that the GT World Challenge Asia is the result of extensive coordination between his team and the SRO Motorsports Group, which has been evaluating the circuit’s readiness since 2022.

"The confirmed schedule highlights the Mandalika Special Economic Zone as a prime location for global motorsports events," said Satria.

Securing approval for the race required several discussions with the International Automobile Federation (FIA) and the International Motorcycling Federation (FIM). This was necessary because the Mandalika International Circuit was initially designed for motorcycle races. To accommodate car racing while ensuring safety, modifications were made to the track, including reducing the run-off areas by eight meters, from 10 meters to just two meters from the track's white lines.

Both the FIA and FIM have now declared the circuit eligible for both car and motorcycle races.

Earlier this month, Satria announced that in addition to the GT World Challenge Asia, the Mandalika Circuit will also host several major international events in 2025, including MotoGP, the Asia Road Racing Championship, and the Porsche Carrera Cup Asia. The circuit will also host domestic races and other non-racing events throughout the year.
