TheIndonesia.id - Jakarta Provincial Government targets to have 500 garages to carry out emission tests for motor vehicles. The Indonesian capital currently has 254 garages.
Head of Jakarta Environmental Office Asep Kuswanto said the addition is necessary as the local government encourages the public to have their vehicles tested. “We are planning to add more; we need up to 500 garages while currently there are only 254 available. We are adding more, so the public can continue to do the emission test without having to wait in a long queue,” Kuswanto said on Monday, 8 November 2021.
The local government continues to work with more local garages which have the required tools and facilities to conduct emission tests. This strategy can accelerate the emission tests program.
The provincial government has also officially postponed the implementation of fines for motor vehicles that do not pass the emission tests until January 2022. It was supposed to start on 13 November, but only 10 to 15 percent of vehicles in Jakarta have gone through the emission test.
Kuswanto stated that his office will continue the dissemination of the policy to the public as many of them are still not aware.
In addition to speeding up the process internally, the office has also started communication with Jakarta’s satellite cities – Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, and Bekasi [or Bodetabek]– to implement a similar policy.
“We will coordinate with Bodetabek satellite cities to have similar implementation even though we’re currently focusing on Jakarta,” Kuswanto revealed.
