TheIndonesia.id - The Deputy Minister of Environment and Forestry, Alue Dohong, won the 'Alumni of The Year' award at the 2021 Australian Alumni Awards organized by the Australian Global Alumni Network and the Australian Embassy in Jakarta. Alue received the award not only for his contribution to environmental affairs in the country but also for his role as an alumnus of the University of Queensland doctorate program in 2016.
He is often involved in various programs initiated by institutions from both countries. "This award provides a strong motivation for me to continue to improve my knowledge, experience, and performance in the future," said Alue in his acceptance speech, Friday, November 19, 2021.
After completing his education at the University of Queensland, he was assigned to the Indonesian Peat Restoration Agency, before finally being appointed as Deputy Minister of LHK. Two other domestic figures also received awards in that Friday event. Another winner is Siti Badriah who is the Policy Advocacy Coordinator at Migrant Care who won the Award for Social Inclusion and Promotion of Women's Empowerment. Meanwhile, Tokopedia's Chief Technology Officer, Herman Widjaja, won the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Award.
The Australian Ambassador to Indonesia, Penny Williams, said Australian alumni made a significant contribution to the development of Indonesia as a nation. “Our alumni are such a great group with varied abilities and represent a wide range of professional backgrounds. You are all at the forefront of ensuring that Indonesia's future growth is positive," she said.
She also hopes that in the future, the strengths possessed by Australian alumni in Indonesia can continue to be utilized for progress and growth.
