Both sides signed two agreements with the government and universities in East Java. The agreement is on the industry and education sector.
"I am very happy to witness the signing of two memorandums of understanding (MoU) tonight," Khofifah said as quoted by ANTARA.
The first MoU is between East Java Province with a British company named Shire Oak which provides solar panels and electricity for East Java. The second agreement is between the Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology (ITS) Surabaya and John Moores University in Liverpool on the development of science and technology parks.
Both collaborations, Ambassador Jenkins said, are almost in the operational stage and the next step is to ensure that the operations are practical while ensuring that the programs provide benefits. "Both in the energy, science, and technology sectors as they promised," said Owen Jenkins.
Regarding the target location for the solar panel operation, Jenkins could not explain in detail but he wanted to start the project as soon as possible after meeting with representatives of the Provincial Government and the Central Government.
Meanwhile, East Java Governor Khofifah Indar Parawansa confirmed that the agreement with ITS Surabaya was related to improving the quality of human resources in the field of education.
Prior to Grahadi, Ambassador Jenkins witnessed the signing of an agreement between a British social company and the Surabaya City branch of Muslimat Nahdlatul Ulama (PC Muslimat NU) regarding education on the impact of plastic in particular baby diapers pollution.
"This collaboration has been around for two years. Then there is also the option of using diapers for toddlers diapers. The hope is to reduce water pollution, especially in the Brantas River," he emphasized.
