TheIndonesia.id - The developer of Jakarta International Stadium (JIS) is targeting the construction to be completed by April this year, a six-month delay from the initial target in October last year.
PT Jakarta Propertindo (Jakpro), owned by Jakarta provincial government, said the construction work has reached almost 98 percent completion, and it’s estimated to be fully completed by early April.
“It’s expected that it will be completed in early April at the latest,” director of asset management at Jakpro Gunung Kartiko said on Sunday, March 13, as reported by Antara.
According to him, there will be soft launching to celebrate the completion. It was actually planned to be held in February but had to be eventually scrapped as Omicron wave hit the country.
For the event, a football match has been planned to take place in the brand new stadium located in North Jakarta, but Kartiko didn’t reveal which teams will play and when exactly the launching event will be held.
“We’re waiting for confirmation from our partners and the players,” he added.
Meanwhile, deputy chairperson of Jakarta Regional Legislative Council (DPRD) Mohamad Taufik said representatives from football’s highest governing body FIFA will visit JIS on March 23 during the stadium’s water absorption test.
Jakpro is speeding up the construction as a number of facilities haven’t been completed, including VVIP room and the Sky View Deck.
The construction of JIS was initially planned to be completed in October 2021. It will have a capacity of 82,000 and become the third biggest stadium in the world and the biggest in Southeast Asia. JIS will also have retractable roof that will make it possible to host various events like concerts.
Jakpro president director Widi Amanasto confirmed on December that the stadium will be completed before Formula E race in Jakarta starts in June – as the government and developers aim to make JIS one of the iconic sites to impress the Formula E audience.
