TheIndonesia.co - West Java provincial government is partnering with Danish company to build large-scale wind turbines in Garut, West Java, that will generate 1,600 megawatt (MW) energy in a project that is planned to begin later this year.
In a meeting in Bandung on Monday, April 11, West Java governor Ridwan Kamil and Danish Ambassador to Indonesia Lars Bo Larsen discussed and perfected the plan that also involves world’s biggest wind turbine manufacturer from Denmark, Vestas Wind Systems.
“Denmark will invest to build wind turbines in southern part of Garut [that will generate] 400 MW in the first stage,” Kamil said after the meeting.
According to the plan, wind turbines will be installed in three subdistricts; in Pameungpeuk, assessment has been completed, and the construction will then continue in Cibolang and Cisompet subdistricts.

Therefore, in total, wind turbines in Garut will generate 1,600 of renewable energy.
Kamil said the project will kick off in 2022 or in 2023 at the latest, and it will be introduced to the international stage during the G20 summit in November.
“We’re speeding this up, and [it will be introduced] in G20 in November 2022 in a showcase,” the governor explained.
The wind turbine project in the southern region of West Java with the Danish company has been discussed since last year, when Danish Ambassador introduced Vestas Wind Systems to Kamil on October 26, 2021.
It is also reported that there’s a possibility that more wind turbines will be built in the province because based on study, its southern region has a great potential to generate renewable energy from wind.
