TheIndonesia.id - Indonesian Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) has reportedly started talks on a potential cooperation in energy and natural resources with American company Planet Labs, which focuses on Earth observation through satellite imagery.
Amid the World Economic Forum’s agenda in Davos, Switzerland, Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Arifin Tasrif met CEO and co-founder of Planet Labs Will Marshall on Monday, May 23, in which the two talked about potential collaboration in various sectors, including energy and agriculture.
“We can also cooperate in agriculture, border [security], and forestry with an objective to monitor forest sustainability and to prevent illegal use of natural resources,” Tasrif said in a statement on Tuesday, May 24.
He also expressed his hope that Planet Labs can soon work with stakeholders in Indonesia to identify illegal mining activities and landslides as well as to explore the potential of new and renewable energy.
Based in San Francisco, Planet Labs provides “the leading web-geo platform with the highest frequency satellite data available and foundational analytics to derive insights, empowering users across the world”.
According to its website, the company works with business, governments, and research institutions that can utilize its data and platform to scale operations, mitigate risks, and develop solutions.
As a player in the Earth observation industry, Planet Labs works with various industries, including agriculture, energy, civil government, sustainability, defense, and forestry – among others.
