Minister Sumadi said the development of Komodo Airport is currently still using state budget.
TheIndonesia.id - Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi welcomed and met Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology (ITS) students who recently won the International Roboboat Competition (IRC) 2022 in Florida, the United States.
Five students who are part of the university’s research club Barunastra were welcomed by Sumadi at his office on Wednesday, July 6, where they were able to present the technology that helped them winning the annual international competition.
Sumadi encouraged the students to continue and be consistent in developing the technology and innovation, adding that it can eventually trigger a downstreaming in the future.
“It should [create a] downstream,” the Minister said.
Mentored by university lecturers, the five students who participated in the competition were Nawab Aditya, Dion Andreas Solang, Halen Dinata Atmaja, Azayaka Emeraldi, and Zulieta Krisna Damayanti.
Team leader Nawab hailed from Tulungagung regency in East Java, and while studying in university, he joined Barunastra – a research group which focuses on developing unmanned vessels since 2012 and regularly takes part in international competitions.
An opportunity to compete in the US presented itself to Nawab and the team, and they ended up winning the 2022 IRC, beating teams from top universities like the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
According to its website, IRC is an “international competition that invites participants to tackle simplified versions of challenges facing the modern maritime industry”.
The competition took place on June 20-25, and among the participants were teams from MIT, Cornell University, and the University of Michigan.
