TheIndonesia.id - Sri Sultan Hamengku Buwono X, Governor of Yogyakarta Special Region (DIY), temporarily relieved Agus Istianto from the position of the Banguntapan State High School (SMAN) 1 principal and three teachers at SMAN 1 Banguntapan in connection with the alleged case of forcing a student to wear a hijab.
"The principal, three teachers, I have released from their positions. They are not allowed to teach while there is a certainty (on the case)," said Sultan in Kepatihan, Yogyakarta, Thursday, August 4, 2022.
The decision refers to Government Regulation (PP) Number 94 of 2021 concerning Discipline of Civil Servants and Regulation of the Minister of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia Number 82 of 2015 concerning Prevention and Overcoming of Violence in Educational Units.
"This consideration is in order to provide opportunities for those concerned to be more focused and concentrated and not to interfere with the process of teaching and learning activities until the issuance of an administrative decision," said Head of the Yogyakarta Special Region Education, Youth and Sports Office (Disdikpora) Didik Wadaya.
The chairman of Commission A of the Yogyakarta Special Region House of Representatives, Eko Suwanto, appreciated the decision of Governor Sri Sultan Hamengku Buwono X.
"We support the firm stance of the Governor of Yogyakarta Sultan Hamengku Buwono X to discharge the principal and unscrupulous teachers of SMAN 1 Banguntapan. We hope that in the future the state civil apparatus, including teachers, fully understand the constitution of the Republic of Indonesia, the meaning of diversity and diversity in Indonesia," said Suwanto in a written statement issued received in Yogyakarta, Friday, August 5, 2022.
Suwanto assessed that the act of forcing a student to wear a headscarf which was allegedly carried out by the teacher and principal of SMAN 1 Banguntapan violated the constitution. This need to be sanctioned.
"Although there has been a temporary release, we invite the public to oversee the resolution of this problem. Investigations must be objective and strict sanctions must be given to anyone who violates employee discipline and the constitution, and opposes the special values of DIY," he said.
He also encouraged continuous coaching efforts for all educators in DIY, in particular reinforcing school principals and teachers, to suppress acts of intolerance in schools. He recommended that the DIY Education, Youth, and Sports Offices have to work together with the Yogyakarta Education and Training Center to facilitate training on Pancasila education, national insight, and the special values of Yogyakarta.
"Hopefully this event will be the last one in DIY. This momentum should encourage a thorough evaluation of the DIY education system. The Pancasila Education Perda and national insight are important to be taken seriously in the future, including in the school environment," he said.
