TheIndonesia.co - The Indonesian government is weighing options to develop cable car project in new capital Nusantara with Austrian companies, the Minister of Transportation revealed.
During a visit to the Central European country, Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi and Minister of National Development Planning Suharso Monoarfa met with the representatives of Doppelmayr Garaventa Group, a global manufacturer of ropeways and cable cars.
Sumadi said upon studying the transport modes developed by the company, the state officials saw an opportunity to develop them in new capital Nusantara to become one of the environmentally friendly public transport options.
“I appreciate the Minister of National Development Planning’s leadership in preparing the new capital, and we will also develop cable car as one of the environmentally friendly transportations to assist mobility and tourism in central government area in new capital,” Sumadi said on Thursday, September 1, as reported by Antara.

According to the company’s website, Doppelmayr Garaventa Group “has built more than 15,400 installations for customers in 96 nations”, and this includes projects in ski areas, public transports, amusement parks, and material handling systems.
And the initial plan in Nusantara is to use cable cars or ropeways to connect the business and commercial zones to the residential areas.
Furthermore, the Indonesian government is also looking to develop similar projects in other parts of Indonesia, especially the higher grounds, in which conventional railway system is complex to build – in addition to also becoming a tourist attraction.
In the meeting, Sumadi invited Doppelmayr Garaventa Group and other Austrian companies to participate in the construction of transport system in Indonesia, including to create cooperation in human resource development in the sector.
