TheIndonesia.co - Indonesian Communication and Information Minister, Johnny G Plate, was detained by the Attorney General's Office (AGO) after allegedly being involved in a corruption case, Wednesday (5/17/2025). The active cabinet member was charged with bribery related to the project to procure telecommunication towers and internet infrastructure.
“We conclude that there is enough evidence to declare that he [Johnny] was involved in a corruption scandal related to BTS [base transceiver station] and 4G internet infrastructure projects in his capacity as the budget guarantor and a minister,” AGO Investigation Director Kuntadi told the media at his office in South Jakarta.
The investigator today altered Johnny's status from witness to a suspect and he will be detained for the next 20 days at the AGO's detention place.
After being altered as a suspect, Johnny kept silent in front of the reporters while walking out of the AGO building. He was escorted by security guards to a waiting detention vehicle.
