TheIndonesia.id - Vice President Ma'ruf Amin stated that Indonesia and Saudi Arabia shared the commitment to supporting Palestine and addressing the Israel-Palestine conflict during his meeting with Saudi Hajj and Umrah Minister Tawfiq bin Fauzan Al-Rabiah.

Apart from the 2024 Hajj preparation, Amin and Tawfiq also discussed the Israel-Palestine conflict in their meeting at the Vice Presidential Palace here on Tuesday (April 30).

"Indonesia commended the joint effort with Saudi Arabia on the framework of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to rally support for the resolution of the Israel-Palestine conflict," Amin noted as per the statement received here on Wednesday, as quoted by Antara.

Indonesia is steadfast in its utmost rejection of Israeli action against Palestine, which exacerbated security instability in the Middle East, he remarked.

"Indonesia also calls all parties to immediately cease hostilities and ensure humanitarian aid distribution for the Palestinian people," the vice president stated.

Responding to Amin's statements, Tawfiq emphasized that Saudi Arabia's stance on the Israel-Palestine conflict resolution is the same as that of Indonesia. He also commended Indonesia's persistence to defend the rights of Palestinians at the international level.

"Regarding the Palestinian issue, we also agree with Your Excellency that what happens there is a blatant violation committed by the colonial entity, Israel," Tawfiq told Amin.

The Saudi minister told the vice president that to respond to Israeli aggression in Gaza, Saudi Arabia had hosted an extraordinary OIC Summit in Riyadh last October. President Joko Widodo was among the national leaders in attendance, he added.

The OIC summit has mandated the establishment of a committee comprising of foreign ministers tasked with devising diplomatic strategies to support the struggle of the Palestinian people, he stated, adding that Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi is part of the committee.

Tawfiq also affirmed that bilateral coordination between Saudi Arabia and Indonesia to support Palestine, including through the OIC platform, will continue.
