TheIndonesia.id - Indonesian House of Representatives' (DPR RI's) Commission III Deputy Chairman Rano Alfath has scheduled an evaluation related to the procedure for the use of firearms by Police personnel following several recent shooting incidents.
His side will soon summon the Head of the Professional and Security Division (Propam) of the National Police to the National Police Chief Assistant for Human Resources to discuss this matter.
"We will summon the head of Propam Division and the Police chief assistant for human resources to check and evaluate the use of firearms," Alfath remarked on Friday, as quoted by Antara.
He also agreed to periodic examinations of police personnel's psychological condition to prevent the misuse of firearms, as stated by Chairman of Commission III, Habiburokhman.
Alfath also welcomed the proposal to equip police personnel with body cameras to prevent the misuse of firearms.
On a separate occasion, Habiburokhman said his side would check the audit mechanism for the use of firearms carried out on police personnel regularly.
He stated that the police had implemented such a mechanism. However, he questioned the real implementation in the field.
He pointed out that each personnel's psychological condition can change along with the dynamics of life experienced.
Highlighting potential risks, he emphasized the critical need for periodic psychological assessments to prevent possible misuse of firearms by police personnel.
Earlier, Habiburokhman said his side had scheduled to summon Semarang Police Chief Senior Commissioner Irwan Anwar over the shooting incident carried out by his personnel against a vocational high school student in Semarang, Central Java.
"We will specifically summon the Semarang Police chief as soon as possible," he noted.
The summons is scheduled on December 3, along with the scheduled summon of the West Sumatra Province Police Chief and Head of the Propam Division of the National Police Headquarters to discuss the case of the police shooting his fellow officer in South Solok, West Sumatra.
