TheIndonesia.co - Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati, State-Owned Enterprises Minister Erick Thohir, and Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Bahlil Lahadalia held a coordination meeting to discuss the 2025-2034 Electricity Supply Business Plan (RUPTL).
“This strategic plan is designed to ensure the availability of electricity to meet national energy needs,” said Sri Mulyani via her Instagram account @smindrawati in Jakarta on Wednesday, as quoted by Antara News Agency.
The RUPTL covers various aspects, including electricity supply schemes, quality improvement, supply reliability, and the development of renewable energy, alongside long-term investment requirements.
In this context, Sri Mulyani emphasized continued support for Indonesia’s energy transition and energy security, with coordination among the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), Ministry of SOEs, and PLN.

Previously, Deputy Minister of SOEs Kartika Wirjoatmodjo mentioned that the RUPTL will be finalized in January 2025, with state utility company PT PLN (Persero) aiming to increase power plant capacity by 71 GW.
Kartika further shared that PLN is committed to maximizing the construction of renewable energy power plants by 2025. “We will build 71 GW of new capacity from 2025 to 2034, with the majority coming from renewable energy,” Kartika stated on December 27, 2024.
Moreover, Kartika revealed that PLN would utilize a smart grid and develop inter-island grids connecting Sumatra-Java and Kalimantan-Java. This setup will allow renewable energy produced in Sumatra and Kalimantan to be distributed to Java.
“We aim to balance energy security, affordability, and sustainability in our long-term plans,” Kartika said.
Meanwhile, during a hearing session with Commission XII of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) in Jakarta on December 2, 2024, PLN President Director Darmawan Prasodjo announced plans to add 68 gigawatts (GW) of power plant capacity by 2033.
“Out of the 68 GW, 46 GW will be based on renewable energy, which means 67% of new power plants in the next decade will rely on renewable energy,” Darmawan said.
Additionally, Darmawan revealed that PLN and the Ministry of ESDM are collaborating on a joint modeling project to accelerate renewable energy development. The model projects an additional 100 GW of power plant capacity by 2040, with 75% of it coming from renewable energy sources.
