TheIndonesia.co - Home Affairs Minister Muhammad Tito Karnavian has expressed strong support for a program aimed at constructing livable homes in densely populated areas, emphasizing its potential to greatly enhance residents' quality of life.
According to Antara News Agency, during a visit to Johar Baru Sub-district on Monday (January 20), Karnavian highlighted the pressing challenges faced by the local population in overcrowded environments. He underscored the importance of building livable houses to create healthier, more sustainable living conditions.
"We hope that these new homes will foster a healthier and more secure environment," Karnavian said, advocating for vertical housing as a long-term solution that would provide more comfort, safety, and a stronger structural foundation compared to temporary home renovations.
Karnavian noted that while many residents opt for renovations, these offer only short-term relief without addressing the underlying structural issues. "Home renovation can only be a temporary fix, as it does not change the building's fundamental structure," he pointed out.

Respecting the preferences of the community, Karnavian reassured residents that the choice of vertical construction would remain voluntary.
Meanwhile, Housing and Settlement Minister Maruarar Sirait announced that the community would have a one-week period to consider the proposal, urging residents to carefully assess the opportunity, as the livable housing program may not be offered again in the future.
The initiative, which seeks to tackle the challenges of overcrowding and inadequate housing, is being supported by the Buddha Tzu Chi Foundation as part of its corporate social responsibility (CSR) efforts.
