TheIndonesia.id - President Prabowo Subianto marked a significant milestone in Indonesia’s political history as he presided over the swearing-in of 961 newly elected regional leaders on Thursday, February 20, 2025. This groundbreaking event was held at the Presidential Palace Complex in Jakarta.
According to Antara News Agency, in his speech, President Prabowo emphasized that this was the first time in Indonesia’s history that 961 regional leaders were inaugurated simultaneously. The newly sworn-in leaders include 33 governors, 33 deputy governors, 363 district heads, 362 deputy district heads, 85 mayors, and 85 deputy mayors, making it a truly momentous occasion.
"This is a historical moment for our nation. For the first time, we are inaugurating such a large number of elected regional leaders," President Prabowo said during the ceremony.
He extended his congratulations to the elected officials and expressed gratitude for the people's trust in them to lead and foster development in their regions. “I want to congratulate all of you for the mandate you have received from the people of your regions," he added.
The president also stressed the importance of cooperation between the central and regional governments to ensure balanced and sustainable development throughout the country. He urged the new leaders to uphold integrity, putting the people’s welfare at the forefront of their governance.
This inauguration follows the 2024 Regional Leaders Election held on November 27. Following their swearing-in, 505 of the new regional leaders will attend a retreat scheduled for February 21-28 at the Military Academy in Magelang, Central Java.
