TheIndonesia.id - On February 25, 2025, Russia's Secretary of the Security Council, Sergei Shoigu, extended an invitation to Indonesia to attend the prestigious Army Forum, an international military-technical event, scheduled for later this year in Russia.
According to Antara News Agency, Shoigu presented the invitation during a meeting with Indonesia's Minister of Defense, Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin, at the Defense Ministry’s headquarters in Central Jakarta.
"This invitation underscores the strength of Indonesia and Russia's harmonious bilateral relations," stated Brigadier General Frega Ferdinand Wenas Inkiriwang, head of the Ministry of Defense’s Information Bureau. Every year, the Army Forum attracts participation from over 100 countries worldwide.
Indonesia’s participation in the forum follows a history of military cooperation between the two nations, including Indonesia’s invitation to the Russian Navy for the ORRUDA bilateral military exercise in the Java Sea last November.
At the Army Forum, Indonesia will have the opportunity to showcase its defense technologies and systems, while also gaining insights into advanced military equipment from Russia and other participating nations. This invitation is also seen as part of broader discussions on potential defense equipment exchanges between Indonesia and Russia.
Though the exact dates for the Army Forum were not disclosed, Indonesia hopes that its involvement in the event will strengthen ties with Russia, particularly in the areas of defense and security.
The Army Forum highlights a range of military technologies, including land, naval, and aerial defense equipment, as well as war operation simulations, from over 100 countries.
