TheIndonesia.co - The Bandung Institute of Technology Alumni Association (IA ITB) will form a team to work on the metaverse (an endless world of interconnected virtual communities) of Indonesia's New Capital in East Kalimantan.
"In 2022, we will also enter meta technology or what is now known as the metaverse. We will form a team and we will propose the first (metaverse) of the new capital city of Indonesia," said Chairperson of the Bandung Institute of Technology Alumni Association Gembong Primadjaja after opening the IA ITB National Working Meeting in Sabuga Bandung, Saturday, December 18, 2021.
According to Gembong, there is no picture of what the new capital city of Indonesia will be in East Kalimantan will look like. "So, we will build the meta version. We can visualize the services or activities in it in 3D (three-dimensional) form using digital applications," he said.
He said that one country that will build a metaverse version of its capital city is South Korea. "If we look at South Korea, the capital city of Seoul, it will become a metaverse. So the government in Seoul, South Korea will also establish Metaverse Seoul," he said.

According to him, the millennial generation is not unfamiliar with living in cyberspace or the metaverse. They have lived and carried out daily activities ranging from business to social in cyberspace.
"We will offer it because there is business potential. There is economic potential," he said.
Gembong said that since 2020 the ITB Alumni Association has been focusing on promoting technology. "So we will enter a field where there are many experts from ITB," he said.
IA ITB will also enter fields like circular economy and meta-technology or what is now known as metaverse and focus on health issues. IA ITB will also help the micro, small, and medium enterprises sector in Indonesia since 90 percent of the Indonesian people are involved in MSME activities and 60 percent of Indonesia's income comes from the MSME sector. One of the programs to help SMEs is to provide training by utilizing the current appropriate technology.
The IA ITB National Working Meeting was opened online by the Minister of State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN) Erick Thohir.
