TheIndonesia.id - Electrum, a joint venture of TBS Energi Utama and Gojek, hopes that the use of electric vehicles in the future can become part of the lifestyle of people in the country.
President Director of Electrum Pandu Sjahrir said it needs massive efforts from various parties to provide an electric vehicle ecosystem that can provide a sense of comfort and benefit for the community, especially considering that Indonesian people are still comfortable using fuel-based vehicles.
"We will focus on making how people want to use electric vehicles, and in my opinion, this will become a lifestyle. For that, first, we have to make vehicles that are more comfortable, secondly more economical, and finally become a pride," said Pandu in a statement received by Antara in Jakarta, Thursday, January 27, 2022.
Pandu said it also needs joint efforts to increase public awareness so that people switch to low-emission vehicles because public education is lacking. "The development is still in its early stages if you use the term startup. I think its development will be very fast in the next two to three years. When education gets better, I believe this electric vehicle will become part of the lifestyle of the world community, including Indonesia," said Pandu who is the Coordinating Minister for Maritime and Investment Luhut Pandjaitan's nephew.
Recently, Electrum has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Gogoro, a leading global technology company in the battery swap ecosystem. Through the MoU, Electrum and Gogoro will work together to strengthen the development of the Electric Vehicle (EV) ecosystem in Indonesia, especially for two-wheeled vehicles.
"As a pioneering technology company in Indonesia's EV sector, Electrum's goal is to accelerate the electrification of transportation in Indonesia," said Pandu.
To achieve this ambitious goal, Pandu assessed, it is necessary to apply international standard technology and processes. On that basis, he is very pleased to collaborate with Gogoro, a market leader in providing efficient mobility and energy solutions.
"It has become our focus to provide more environmentally-friendly transportation solutions to Indonesia, based on our mission to protect the environment and the communities we serve, as well as contribute to energy independence and national climate initiatives," said Pandu.
The collaboration between Electrum and Gogoro, continued Pandu, is in line with TBS Energi Utama and Gojek's commitment to achieving Net Zero Emissions by 2030, as well as TBS Energi Utama's investment in clean and renewable energy in the same period.
"We believe that the momentum created by our collaboration with Gogoro and the combination of our knowledge and efforts will be a catalyst for the development of the EV ecosystem in Indonesia," said Pandu.
