TheIndonesia.id - Australian Ambassador to Indonesia Penny Williams has recently revealed that her time in Indonesia during a student exchange program years ago has got her to love Indonesian cuisine as she mentioned bakso and sop buntut as some of her favorite dishes.

In an event in Jakarta on Tuesday, March 8, Williams said during her time studying in Indonesia, she used to enjoy street foods which could easily be found in almost parts of Jakarta.

“When I was in 11th grade, I always went to Pasar Baru [in Central Jakarta] to eat bakso tenis,” Williams said during the Great Steak Escape 2022, as reported by Antara. Bakso is a popular Indonesian meatball, and bakso tenis has boiled egg inside.

Aside from bakso, Williams said that she also enjoyed sop buntut (oxtail soup) and satay.

During the event that promoted Australian beef, the ambassador said it can be a great ingredient for Indonesian dishes.

“Australian beef can be cooked for street foods and even five-star restaurant menus,” she said.

Williams said Australian beef and lamb are of high quality and safe to consume, and they have obtained halal certification from the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI).

The Great Steak Escape 2020 is held by True Aussie Beef & Lamb, a brand initiated by Meat & Livestock Australia (MLA), on March 1-31. The event collaborates with 24 chefs from restaurants across Jakarta to showcase the taste, quality, and nutrition of Australian beef.

Various restaurants will spoil meat lovers with different menus to choose from – not only Western foods, but also Asian dishes, including Japanese and Indonesia. This event also promotes beef as a source of high iron, which is essential for brain development, physical growth, and immunity.
