TheIndonesia.co - Bima Regency Environmental Service through the Bima Regency Regional Secretariat, West Nusa Tenggara, conveyed the results of temporary observations of milk-chocolate jelly-like liquid floating on the surface of the waters of Bima Bay.
"From temporary observations by the DLH team, the phenomena that occurred in Bima Bay are more likely to lead to sea snot," said Head of Protocol and Communications Section for the Regional Secretariat of Bima Regency, Suryadin, in a written statement received in Mataram, Thursday, April 28, 2022.
Sea snot, he continued, is known as a collection of mucus-like organisms found in the sea. Its properties, similar to gelatin and cream are generally harmless but can contain viruses and bacteria including ecoli.
Snot or sea mucus recently appeared in the Mediterranean Sea and spread to the Sea of Marmara, Turkey. According to expert predictions, one of the causes is global warming. Its emergence is also widely suspected as a result of the impact of untreated waste. It could also be due to the influence of rising seawater temperatures.

If these predictions were true, it does not mean it is not dangerous. Instead, it has an impact on the damage to marine life in the long term, one of which will suppress the production of marine fish.
"Therefore, all parties are expected to make a real contribution to environmental recovery in Bima Bay," he said.
Furthermore, the DLH Bima Regency conveyed a temporary conclusion that the lump that occurred did not originate from an oil spill, but rather a moss or marine algae. "But to determine what actually happened and what caused it, DLH has taken samples of the seawater and the lumps for further analysis in the laboratory. So the exact results are still waiting," he said.
