TheIndonesia.id - The French aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle (RP91) arrived at Port of Gili Mas in West Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) province, on Tuesday (28/01/2025), marking both a routine visit and a historic event for the region. The ship, manned by over 1,780 crew members, is 262 meters long and equipped with advanced aircraft and weapons.
According to Antara News Agency, Colonel Wirawan, Chief of Staff of the Wira Bhakti Military Resort Command, noted that the visit underscores the strong relationship between Indonesia and France, especially in the maritime sector.
“We hope this visit will strengthen bilateral ties, particularly in maritime cooperation,” he said.
The Indonesian military has ensured the safety of the Charles de Gaulle crew during their stay in NTB, where French naval officers will explore popular tourist destinations like Gili Trawangan Island, Kuta Mandalika Beach, and Benang Kelambu Waterfall.
NTB Regional Secretary Lalu Gita Ariadi and Mataram Naval Base Commander Colonel Waluyo were also present to welcome the aircraft carrier, with Ariadi expressing hope that the visit would enhance ties between Indonesia and France, fostering future cooperation in the maritime domain.
